After becoming the first African-American to graduate from the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston, Dr. Zeb F. Poindexter Jr. started his first practice in 1956 in the "Chocolate Bayou," which is now known as Sunnyside. In 1960, he built what was then known as the Sunnyside Clinic on Cullen Boulevard, which still stands as Poindexter Dental, Inc. He retired in 2000 after practicing for 42 years, leaving behind a legendary career for caring for Houstonians.
Dr. Poindexter III followed in his father's footsteps, graduating from the University of Texas Dental Branch in 1984. Distinguished as a Fellow from the Academy of General Dentistry since 1993, he is certified in numerous dental specialties and treats special needs patients while maintaining his private practice.
For their combined efforts, the Houston Citizens Chamber of Commerce honored the pair with the 2008 Pinnacle Award and the Houston Business Journal recognized them with the inaugural Health Care Heroes award for dentistry in 2009.

Our facility was built by Mr. John Chase, the first African-American graduate of the University of Texas School of Architecture. It is readily accessible to people who may need transportation assistance and is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. We have five private, completely-furnished treatment rooms and a comprehensive X-ray system readily available. There is free parking and quick freeway access to get you to your destination on time.
