He is currently on staff at the Riverside General Hospital and Twelve Oaks Hospital. He is frequently published in Urban Viewpoint where he writes articles concentrating on how to improve oral health in the Houston community.

Dr. Poindexter has been a practicing dentist for 44 years. He is a member of numerous organizations and serves on many boards. He has many achievements in his career and is cited in numerous publications. Additionally, he was the first Black Dental student at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. He started Poindexter Dental in 1956 where he has served the Greater Houston community for over 40 years.
